5th grade T-shirt

5th grade t-shirts were sold during Mule Market & will be distributed before the parade to begin raising funds for the 5th grade activities.  They should be worn on all 5th grade field trips.  If you didn’t get one during Mule Market, there will be other opportunities to buy your new 5th grade t-shirt!

Howdy Night Parade

All 5th graders are invited to walk in the Howdy night parade.  We will meet at the AHLL fields (grassy area on the corner of Argo & Viesca) by   4 pm for 4:30 start time.  Kids will walk to the High School at Castano & Broadway. The parade lasts about 30 minutes. Pick up will be in the grass in from of the High School.  PARENTS MUST MAKE PLANS WITH YOUR CHILD WHERE TO MEET IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE PARADE. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend the Howdy Night Carnival at the High School afterwards.

The Read-A-Thon will kick off on November 2 and run through November 23.  The 5th graders are privileged to participate in more activities than younger Woodridge classes.  Some of their activities are not covered by the field trip and fundraising fees paid during Woodridge Mule Market.  Instead, 5th graders raise the funds themselves through reading. The 5th graders ask family and friends to support them with monetary pledges for reading a certain number of minutes or books over a four-week period.  The goal is for each student to earn $85.  These funds will be used to pay for the following:

  • The T Bar M field trip (including lunch)
  • Mitchell Lake field trip
  • 5th grade track meet expenses
  • 5th grade graduation ceremony expenses
  • Pool party expenses (pool rental, lifeguards, DJ and snacks/lunch)
  • Bus transportation for the above events

T Bar M Field Trip

T Bar M (in New Braunfels) is a camp that provides a daylong field trip for the students.  Students enjoy ropes courses and group games that encourage trust building. Buses leave by 8:15 and return at 5:00pm.  No parent chaperones will be needed for this field trip.

Track Meet

Held at the AHHS stadium, Woodridge and Cambridge 5th grade students meet and compete against one another in a fun-filled morning of different Track and Field events. The concession stand will be open to purchase snacks (students should bring cash). Parent volunteers are needed and encouraged to attend.

Variety Show:

All 5th graders are invited to try out for this show, either solo or in a small group (skits, singing, piano, dance, puppet show, or anything creative).   More information will be sent home at a later date.

Now and Then Photos

Parents are asked to provide a picture of their child when they were younger and a current picture. These pictures are shown side by side on

a large screen at the Graduation Ceremony as each child walks across the stage. Watch for a form asking for these photos in March. They will be due by April 26.

5th grade Video

Pictures taken throughout the past five school years are put together with music and made into a video to be shown at the Graduation Ceremony. A permission slip was sent home at the beginning of the year to give permission for your child’s picture to appear in the video. The permission slip must be signed to be included in the video.

Graduation Ceremony and Pool Party

A Graduation Ceremony is held in the Woodridge Auditorium at 9:00 a.m. on May 23.  Prior to the ceremony, students will parade throughout the school one last time after morning announcements. Following the ceremony students will enjoy a private pool party at the Alamo Heights Pool.   Parents are invited to attend the Graduation Ceremony and are encouraged to volunteer at the pool party.

5th Grade Yearbook Ad

Purchase a 5th grade Ad on Mule Market  by Friday, November 2nd. The 2 1/2” x 4” ads will appear in the back of the yearbook. Each ad includes 1-3 photos of your student and a special message from you, the parent or guardian.

Pre-order your yearbooks now to preserve your child’s 5th grade memories for $30 by April 30th through Mule Market.  We encourage parents to keep a copy of their receipt as a reminder of this purchase since yearbooks do not arrive until the last week of school.
